NMC Showcases Local Manufacturing at Kenya Industrialization Conference 2023
The Kenya Industrialization Conference (KIC) 2023, organized by the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry, in collaboration with its stage agencies, partners, and private sector, took place with great success. The theme of this year’s conference was ‘Accelerating AfCFTA Implementation through Value Chain Integration for Shared Prosperity’. The event featured panel discussions on key topics and an exhibition where companies showcased their manufacturing successes.
The conference was inaugurated on 20th November 2023 by the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry, Hon. Rebecca Miano. NMC proudly participated in the exhibition as a sponsor, demonstrating its commitment to local manufacturing. At the NMC booth, various products were showcased, including the Tiba bed, Tofas brick making machines, lathe machines, and industrial parts.
In line with the theme of industrialization, NMC also highlighted a significant achievement in Kenya’s manufacturing history – the first locally manufactured vehicle in the late eighties and early nineties called ‘Nyayo Pioneer’. This served to raise awareness about Kenya’s capabilities in local manufacturing.
Mr. George Makateto, the Managing Director of NMC, played an active role as a session chair and panelist in various discussions on topics such as automotive, steel, cement, and sugar. These discussions provided valuable insights into the local market and opportunities for NMC’s products.
During the exhibition, NMC had the privilege of hosting esteemed dignitaries at its stand. On 20th November 2023, the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry, Hon. Rebecca Miano, and H.E. Anne Waiguru, Governor of Kirinyaga County, visited the booth. They engaged in fruitful discussions on potential collaborations between the county and NMC.
On 21st November 2023, Dr. Paul Utuoma, the Governor of Busia County, and Dr. Juma Mukhwana, the Principal Secretary, also visited the NMC stand. They were particularly impressed with the Tiba Bed and Tofas brick making machine, expressing their willingness to collaborate with NMC for the benefit of their county.
The Kenya Industrialization Conference 2023 provided a platform for NMC to showcase its products, engage in meaningful discussions, and explore collaboration opportunities. NMC remains committed to contributing to Kenya’s industrial growth and looks forward to future endeavors in advancing local manufacturing.
H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto Tours Numerical Machining Complex Stand During Commissioning of Electro-Deposition Paint Plant at Isuzu East Africa
June 7th, 2023, H.E. Dr. William Ruto, the President of the Republic of Kenya, toured the Numerical Machining Complex stand during the commissioning of the Electro-Deposition (ED) Paint Plant at Isuzu East Africa.
The commissioning of the ED Paint Plant marks a significant milestone for Isuzu East Africa as it seeks to enhance its manufacturing capabilities and meet the growing demand for high-quality vehicles in the region. The plant will allow Isuzu East Africa to produce vehicles with a superior finish and increased durability.
During his tour, the President was impressed by the auto parts, machinery and equipment manufactured by Numerical Machining Complex. NMC uses state-of-the-art facilities and specializes in precision machining, fabrication, and assembly of complex components for various industries.
The President affirmed that Kenya is committed to hosting more automotive players to increase local production of vehicles. To enhance production capacity, NMC procures UMC-750 5 Axis milling machine.
NMC has installed a UMC-750 5-axis milling machine to strengthen its production capacity and meet customer expectations. The machine will enhance manufacturing of complex spare parts with variable geometry.
By making cuts at any angle with no difference in diameter or shape, the 5-axis milling machine improves accuracy and repeatability up to ten times over other machines. The machine offers greater accuracy when machining deeper parts and hardened materials, and offers higher yields and faster machining speeds.
5-axis machining is an effective means to reduce setups and increase accuracy for multi-sided and complex parts.
The 5-axis machine relies on a tool that moves in five different directions — X, Y, and Z, as well as A and B, around which the tool rotates. Using a 5-axis CNC machine lets operators approach a part from all directions in a single operation, eliminating the need to manually reposition the workpiece between operations. 5-axis CNC machining saves time and is ideal for creating complex and precise parts like those found in the medical, oil and gas, and aerospace industries.
The UMC-750 has an integrated dual-axis trunnion table with a 500 mm diameter platter that features standard T-slots and a precision pilot bore for fixturing versatility. The trunnion provides +120 and -35 degrees of tilt and 360 degrees of rotation to provide excellent tool clearance and large part capacity.
The installation of this new machine will compliment other machines and equipment that were recently procured and installed to enhance NMC’s capacity.
The other machines include a digital automated hot pressing hydraulic machine for manufacturing of composite railway brake blocks and a High precision 2000 Watts CNC Fiber Laser Cutting Machine to support mass fabrication.
